Abstract
Fetal heart rate (FHR) determinations during normal pregnancy were made from early pregnancy (12 weeks) to term in 213 cases by means of an ultrasonic Doppler`s apparatus. Also, serial FHR determinations were made in 23 normal pregnant women. A decreasing FHR pattern was noticed from the 25th weeks, after which the values remaind more stable (about 140 beats per minute) until term. The roles of an increase in fetal weight and vagal maturation are discussed briefly, to correlate them with the decreasing FHR pattern noticed from the 25th weeks of pregnancy.
